A man alleged to be a Christchurch drug kingpin has been granted bail.

Police seized more than half a million dollars worth of assets, after 25 kilograms of cannabis was found on a yacht in the Marlborough Sounds.

Peter Gane and two other men were arrested in Picton and Christchurch last month after the investigation - which spanned several weeks.

The 64-year-old is charged with cultivating cannabis, possession of cannabis for supply and possession of equipment for cultivating cannabis.

Police allege it involved outdoor plots on several remote islands in Queen Charlotte Sound.
