A 16-year-old male has been arrested by police investigating the death of 17-year-old rugby league player Luke Tipene.

Police have confirmed that 17-year-old Luke Tipene of Glen Eden received a fatal stab wound.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard says that Police have made significant progress in the investigation today but still need to speak to a number of people who were in the vicinity of the assault at around 12:15am.

“It is a tragedy that a young man has lost his life in circumstances like these, during an incident which really should not have happened. Ultimately this one incident has left the families of two young men devastated.”
