The first British minister to visit New Zealand since the Brexit vote has arrived to emphasise that the United Kingdom is open for business for Kiwis.

Alok Sharma will meet with Deputy Prime Minister Bill English, Foreign Minister Murray McCully and Trade Minister Todd McClay to discuss trade, investment and security.

"As the first UK minister to visit New Zealand since the European referendum, I look forward to discussing the many opportunities that lie ahead for the UK and New Zealand," he said.

"We are open for business, and the natural place for New Zealanders to visit, study, invest and trade."

Mr Sharma is the Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office with responsibility for Asia and the Pacific.

He will also address the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds, hold roundtable discussions with Pacific Island groups and lay a wreath at the Auckland War Memorial Park.
