New Zealand businesses are being encouraged to look at opportunities in Turkey.

Almost 100 years on from the Gallipoli landings, Turkey is keen to develop more trade opportunities with New Zealand.

Trade opportunities between the two countries were discussed at a Waikato Chamber of Commerce breakfast this morning.

There's around $250 million of trading between Turkey and New Zealand each year.

Minister for Small Business Craig Foss says Turkey already imports a lot dairy products from New Zealand.

"We don't have a huge trading history with Turkey and that's the up side right now, an $850 billion economy. New Zealand can do very well from that growing economy."

Canakkale Governor Ahmet Cinar says there's huge potential in the agricultural industry.

His words are translated.

"The trade volume of today is very low. We are developing very much but it is not enough."
