Tamihere free to stand for Parliament

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Monday December 3 2012 5:29

John Tamihere is again a member of the Labour party, and free to try to return to Parliament.

The party has accepted the former MP back into the fold, as long as he abides by the same rules as all other members.

Mr Tamihere lost his Tamaki Makaurau seat in 2005, not long after publicly insulting his colleagues in a media interview.

Labour party secretary Tim Barnett says there was no reason to exclude Mr Tamihere from the party, or from standing for re-election sometime in the future.

"It's up to him if he wants to stand for Parliament, and as I said we are in the middle of looking at our processes around selection.

"That's a long way ahead, and it wasn't any part of our consideration."
