Green parties unite against TPP

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Monday August 20 2012 10:30

In a rare move, a joint statement has been issued by the Green parties of New Zealand, Australia and Canada, speaking out against the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Nine countries are negotiating the text, but there are concerns about the closed door nature of the talks, with the only information revealed so far coming through leaks.

There are concerns the agreement will lead to multi-national companies being able to sue our government over issues such as plain packaging of tobacco products.

Greens co-leader Metiria Turei says the parties joined forces in an attempt to send a strong message to Governments that our sovereignty is not for sale.
