Better late than never.Â
Veteran J.D. Sexton, 93, has finally been awarded his high school diploma, graduating this week.Â
As a teenager in 1943, Sexton was drafted for World War II and never had the opportunity to finish his studies.
However, after Alabama introduced a state law in 2014 allowing veterans with interrupted high school careers to receive their diplomas, Sexton was finally given the opportunity to take his place on the podium.Â
Sexton's wife arranged to have him walk and graduate with the rest of his Highland Home class of 2015.
“It’s a wonderful thing to come up here and be with the people and to receive a diploma for high school education," he told WishTV. "I'm just appreciative of the Lord Jesus for letting me live to be 93."
