Berhampore School Principal Mark Potter told Nick Mills a number of parents at his school have offered to pay for teacher aides, but the school does not accept that money.
Potter said childrens' education is suffering and more resource is needed for government-funded teacher aides.
It follows an Auckland mum being told she can't keep paying 10-thousand dollars a year for help for her eight-year-old son.
It came after she emailed Education Minister Chris Hipkins, arguing there's not enough support for all learners at existing state schools, and suggesting the ministry pay for the help.
