Black Caps coach Gary Stead believes his captain is fully fit and ready for the challenge that awaits in England.

Kane Williamson has played just five games for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, owing to concerns with a shoulder injury and a family bereavement.

Williamson has also battled for form, with a high score of 14 from five innings.

Stead says Williamson will be ready for the World Cup, starting a month Tuesday.

"I know he'd like to have a few more runs at time, but that's the nature of T20 Cricket. Hopefully what he's missing out on now makes him hungrier for the World Cup."

Stead told Martin Devlin he's been in consistent contact with the batsman and is confident of his health going forward.

"He went over to the IPL. We knew he was still a week or 10 days away at the time, but Kane's back into things now."

The Black Caps first World Cup game is against Sri Lanka on June 1st.
