Wild by Kristin Hannah: Who also wrote The Nightingale which has been a favourite for many readers. Dr Julia Cates is a child psychiatrist whose career is in tatters, and when her police officer sister asks her to come home and help with a case she’s working on, she jumps at the chance. A mystery wild child has been found in the town, and Julia starts working with her, determined to find out who she is, and to help. But of course a case like this isn’t plain sailing.
The Miracle Typist: For fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Nonfiction about a Jewish man conscripted into the Polish army in WW2 and had a horrible time. He was held in a Hungarian internment camp from which he managed to escape – to Palestine, where his ability to type earned him the title of The Miracle Typist and he was put to work, then sent on to fight in Egypt, Tobruk and Italy – but of course all the time desperate to get home. Written by his son in law.
