Should we be forgoing having children for the sake of the planet? That's the view of pop starr Miley Cyrus, who has revealed why she will not be having babies anytime soon.

In a new interview with Elle magazine, the singer, who is married to actor Liam Hemsworth, explained that they're not interested in reproducing until there are "fish in the water."

"Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I'm not bringing in another person to deal with that. We don't want to reproduce because we know that the earth can't handle it," Cyrus told the magazine.

"The earth is angry. We've been doing the same thing to the earth that we do to women."

"We just take and take and expect it to keep producing. And it's exhausted. It can't produce. We're getting handed a piece-of-s*it planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child."

Cyrus also objected to the way women who choose not to have children are viewed in society.

"If you don't want children, people feel sorry for you, like you're a cold, heartless b*tch who's not capable of love," she said. "Why are we trained that love means putting yourself second and those you love first? If you love yourself, then what? You come first."

Cooking the Books host Frances Cook and commentator and writer Liam Hehir joined Andrew Dickens to answer the tough question, and all the big stories from the week.
