The New Zealand Dance Company’s latest work sees mathematics and art meet.

‘The Fibonacci’ is the latest contemporary work by choreographer Victoria Columbus, based on none other than the famous mathematical formula the Fibonacci sequence.

The sequence was discovered by mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci in around 1200 AD. Each number in the sequence is the sum of the two before it.

It’s been called ‘natures secret code’ and is said to govern the dimensions of everything.

Columbus’ work is part of the New Zealand Dance Company’s latest show ‘Kiss the Sky’, which is currently touring the country.

She joined Francesa Rudkin alongside New Zealand Dance Company CEO and founder Shona McCullagh to discuss their latest show.
