Rhys Darby has entered a new career path - travel presenting.

The award winning comedian and actor is bringing back the good old days of worldwide travel to see beautiful countries around the world, with a new show called Rhys Darby: Big in Japan airing on TVNZ.

Darby told Andrew Dickens the travel experience was amazing.

"I've always wanted to go to Japan, it's one of those places you hear about always good things. For me most of the travel I've done has always been based on my career, whether through stand-up or making movies."

Mr Darby says one of the most fantastic things he was able to experience was Samurai training.

"I'm not really into the meditation side of things, although I'm willing to give it a go.

"Samurai training is all about that, it's all about the inner strength, the mind."

The series premieres on Thursday June 4.
