Scientists this week have discovered what they consider to be the 'gold' in breast milk.
They have found proteins called alarmins which in babies prevent dangerous intestinal colonization disorders that can lead to blood poisoning and intestinal inflammation.
This new research could help us to make more protective baby formula for those mothers who can't breastfeed as well as opens up new avenues for adults who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome.
Nanogirl Michelle Dickinson joined Francesca Rudkin to discuss the new discovery.
