The sound of The Chills is one that became famous here in New Zealand in the 1980s, and further afield.
But as the The Chills were about conquer the world, the music industry changed, and Martin Phillips, the lyrical genius behind The Chills, found himself back in Dunedin with a drug addiction, and later on, severe health issues.
That story is retold in The Chills: The Tragedy and Triumph of Martin Phillips, a new documentary that explores his past.Â
Phillips and directer Julia Parnell joined Francesca Rudkin to discuss the documentary and that era of New Zealand music.Â
