The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter

She writes brilliant thrillers, and has a series with two main characters, Will Trent who works for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) and Sara Linton, a medical examiner. This is about a serial murder investigation. Will Trent visits the state penitentiary to investigate the murder of a prisoner – and while there is offered info by another inmate who wants to trade the info for release as he maintains he’s innocent – and the murders being committed match the MO of the one for which he’s inside, which means the real killer is still out there.

Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan

He wrote the wonderful Crazy Rich Asians and this is essentially more of the same, but starts this time on the Isle of Capri and then is set in the US. Obscene wealth, the glamour lifestyles, a love intrigue and some beautiful skewering of these elites. He has a lovey satirical eye and tells a great story.
