Resurrection Walk by Michael Connelly: this is another of his books with two of his big characters both starring – Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch (who are half brothers). Haller has agreed to represent a woman who’s in prison for killing her husband who was a sheriff’s deputy, and he hires Harry Bosch to investigate it. The sheriff’s department closes ranks as he starts digging and it’s soon apparent there are a lot of people who really don’t want this case reopened. It’s classic Connelly, done as brilliantly as he always does.Â
Gangster’s Paradise by Jared Savage : he wrote a book called Gangland a few years ago about the evolution of gangs in New Zealand. This new one is about the escalation of the gangs. It’s about drugs, guns, gangs, and lots and lots of money. He writes that with the arrival of 501s and Australian gangs who have strong international connections, our long established New Zealand ones have had to really up their game and now there’s a lot of turf wars, retribution and retaliation going on. Absolutely fascinating if somewhat scary reading.Â
