Shane Jones comments about Indian students have dominated political headlines this week.Â
Last weekend, he told The Nation "I think the number of students that have come from India have ruined many of those [educational] institutions."
It led to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to say he was wrong and that she "totally disagreed" with him. He says if he was a Labour MP he'd be disciplined for his remarks about Indian students ruining many academic institutions.
Ardern also urging voters to show what they think of the remarks at the ballot box but to Jones, it's water off a duck's back.
In response, Jones told ZB she's a brilliant politician and when she speaks she never says anything wrong. However, he says there's a different perspective in what New Zealand First sees as dodgy language schools and the flow of immigration into New Zealand and how Labour sees them.
"I'm not going to accept the Indian radicals shutting me down ... I'm surprised by the over-reaction … initially a lot of the pressure against me has come from the radicals in the Indian community."
Political reporter Jason Walls joined Francesca Rudkin to discuss what the scandal means for the election.
