In 1969, Cliff Tait, a salesman and amateur aviator, became the first person to fly a single engine plane around the world.

The journey in his New Zealand made airtourer, Miss Jacy, took Cliff 81 days across 48,000kms.

This coming week marks a milestone for Cliff, Thursday 1 August is the 50th anniversary of the completion of his journey.  Keeping a promise to his wife Joyce that he would be home in time for their 17th wedding anniversary.

The journey was a dicey one for Cliff, with many moments leaving him wondering whether he should just turn back or whether he would make it home at all.

Tait joined Andrew Dickens to share his recollection of the journey.
