Stories detailing the devastating impacts of fraud are to be shared on the big screen.

The Commission for Financial Capability and the Serious Fraud Office have joined forces to produce a short film called Fraud Hurts.

It features victims of investment fraud, a Bitcoin con, and a romance scam.

The Commission's fraud education manager Bronwyn Groot told Andrew Dickens says romance scams are the worst, as people lose emotionally as well as financially.

"It's always really, really hard for me to go into someone's home and and sit beside them and tell them the love of their life doesn't exist. Romance scams are terrible and they rip families apart as well."

Fraud Hurts will be shown at a free session of the International Fraud Film Festival in Auckland on Thursday.
