Cook Island businesses are struggling to stay open, during the long-wait for a travel bubble.

The dream of an island resort getaway might be on the cards with New Zealand and the Cook Islands having agreed to open a quarantine-free travel bubble by end of March 2021

The Prime Ministers of the two countries, Jacinda Ardern and Mark Brown, have said officials are working together to safely arrange two-way travel with a date for the first stage to be announced next week.

The boss of one of the Islands' biggest hotels reveals without visitors, businesses are closing at 3pm every day.

Edgewater Resort and Spa Chief Executive Andrew Whittaker told Francesca Rudkin residents have spent the time caring for the Island.

"The islands looking beautiful and great, the conservation is good, so that's been some positives, but as a business, it is pretty critical, pretty desperate."
