Jacinda Ardern has congratulated Australia's new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
He's become the 31st Prime Minister of Australia, after emerging as the frontrunner from yesterday's election.
But the Labor leader is likely to need the support of smaller parties and independents to form a government.
Newstalk ZB Political Reporter Aaron Dahmen told Francesca Rudkin Ardern called Albanese before he delivered his acceptance speech this morning.
“She says it was a warm conversation and she’s really looking forward to formally meeting him soon. She, I think, will be very happy with the fact that here in Australasia now, Australia and New Zealand, there’s two Labour parties in power.”
