It’s a Christmas dilemma for many “real” Christmas tree lovers – how to keep your tree green for as long as possible.

Researchers have tested four treatments that have been suggested to prolong the health of cut pine trees, which are used as Christmas trees.

1. Spraying the foliage with hairspray

2. Energy drinks

3. Freshly boiled (still hot) water

4. Beer (diluted 50/50 with water)
