Martin Devlin: Stop moaning golfers and be grateful to play

Stop moaning you golf twats and get on with it.

I love the US Open and especially love the way the course is set up for precision, accurate golf. Instead of the big boofing slamma-jamma hit-the-tee-shot-half-a-mile crowd, this Major (a bit like The Open) rewards the best golfer as opposed to the biggest hitter.

And isn't this what we all want?  It's not a longest drive contest. I want to see the best player win the tournament and that means whoever  manages the course best - precision golf not power golf.

Those that moan about and criticise the course are as bad as the tennis brats (yes, you Serena) who whine that they have to fetch their own towels between matches. This is what decades of pandering to egos has done  to the sport. Golfers are the most pampered of all professional sportspeople.

Well here's the one event where the game bites back. One lone tournament where Mr Precious doesn't win with a ridiculous score.

Post-covid there's been six events won at twenty under or more. Who, apart from the players, wants that? No-one, so shut up and get on with it.

No-one is demanding you play this Major. You're there ONLY because you're  desperate to win such a coveted title. it's the job of the USGA to set up the course and yours to hit the silly white thing around it as best you can. If it's all too hard then don't play. Because you're playing a game for money remember.

And if this is as rough as it gets then as they say in golf, with every pun intended  and particularly at this tournament, suck it up cupcake it's par for the course.
