The Crusaders stuttered to a 19-all Super Rugby draw with the Stormers in Cape Town.

The Red and Blacks overturned an early 10-nil deficit to lead 19-10, before the Stormers kicked three straight penalty goals to snatch a share of the spoils.

Crusaders assistant coach Brad Mooar says it's disappointing to come away with a draw when they could've won.

He says they had plenty of opportunities but couldn't build consecutive positives, so there's plenty to learn from.

Earlier in the weekend, the Hurricanes suffered their first home defeat to a non-New Zealand Super Rugby side since 2015.

They were out-muscled by the Jaguares 28-20 in Wellington.

It was the first win for the Jaguares over the Hurricanes in their short history.

Coach John Plumtree says they got off to a great start, scoring in the first minute, but it didn't go to script from there.

He says they didn't have too many other moments where they could build pressure, because the Jaguares defended really well.

The Highlanders also suffered defeat, running out of gas in their 38-29 Super Rugby loss to the Lions in Johannesburg.

The Southerners were within touching distance late, before a try to Lions wing Courtnall Skosan try quashed any chance of a comeback.

It was the Blues who walked away victorious, with a drought-breaking 23-8 victory over the Chiefs.

The Blues kept the Chiefs scoreless in the second half, while also breaking a 17-game winless run against their rivals dating back to 2011.

Coach Leon MacDonald says the strength of their defence was a big key in their victory.

He says they scrambled well and didn't give the Chiefs chances.
