Wellington's made it two from two over Auckland on the opening day of domestic cricket's Super Smash.

The Firebirds have beaten the Aces by four wickets at the Basin Reserve, chasing down 177 with five balls to spare.

Finn Allen and Troy Johnson both posting half-centuries.

Earlier, they restricted their hosts to 176 for three.

In the women's competition, the Blaze, who like their male counterparts are defending champions, pummelled the Hearts by nine wickets, reaching their 93-run target in the 12th over.

Amelia Kerr was top-scoring with 58.

They had restricted the visitors to just 92 for nine from their 20 overs - Kerr the pick of the bowlers with three for 11 from four overs.
