William Pike, at the age of 22, lost his right leg after being after being struck by a boulder in the 2007 eruption of Mt Ruapehu.

He was sleeping in a hut on Mt Ruapehu at the time the lahar hit around 8.30 at night.

That was 12 years ago today, and this experience lead him to become an incredibly successful inspirational speaker and founder of the William Pike Challenge Award.

He joined Simon and Phil to chat about that day on the 12 year anniversary, and his work with the Antarctic Heritage Trust inspiring the next generation of young explorers.
