New Zealand has struck a Free Trade Agreement with the EU.

The deal comes after four years of negotiations.

The European Union says trade with New Zealand is expected to increase by 30 per cent as a result of the deal.

The 27-member bloc says EU investment flows into New Zealand could increase by more than 80 per cent.

Bilateral trade in goods between the two partners has risen steadily in recent years, reaching almost 7.8 billion euro in 2021.

The EU is New Zealand's third-biggest trade partner.

National's pouring cold water on the deal.

Trade Spokesperson Todd McClay says unfortunately the Government's been unable to deliver for the dairy and meat sector ... causing a lot of disappointment for those industries.

Simon Barnett & James Daniels spoke with Federated Farmers Meat & Wool Chair William Beetham. Then, for a perspective on how these deals are put together, former trade negotiator Charles Finny joined them on the show.
