Microsoft is looking to buy TikTok 

Donald Trump wants to ban TikTok because it's a Chinese app with yet-to-be-determined links to China's government. He's signed an executive order stating that they have until September 15 to sell the company because it "threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans' personal and proprietary information -- potentially allowing China to track the locations of Federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage.” Microsoft has confirmed it's looking to buy TikTok’s presence in the US, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand reportedly for as much as $50 billion. Microsoft's CEO was the one who purchased LinkedIn for more than $26 billion in 2016.  

Now there are a flood of competitors 

Because if the app is shut off, people will follow where their favorite creators go. Instagram has launched a knock-off called Reels. Snapchat is also trying to get into the space, as are Byte, Triller, Zynn and Clash. 
 

It's not just TikTok Trump is targeting 

It's also WeChat - a highly popular messaging, social media and payments app.
