- In NZ 1:6 have mental health issues, 16% will suffer depression over lifetimeÂ
How do we recognise it?Â
- Feeling low, sad, fatigued, sleep, not wanting to socialise.Â
- People can feel down however start to talk depression when it interferes with day to day activities.Â
- Can be mild , moderate, severe. For some people persistent more than 2 years.Â
What causes it?Â
- Some comes out of blue.Â
- Other triggered by life events – death, trauma, , life changes, interestingly major surgery .Â
What should I do?Â
- Talk to someone. Friend, family, help lines. Â
- Good idea to visit and talk to GP - Help is availableÂ
What can be done?Â
- Lifestyle interventionsÂ
- CounsellingÂ
- In some cases medication.Â
