In 1999, American High School Student Hae Min Lee was found dead, and her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was later convicted of her murder.
So far, it’s a depressingly familiar story.
Except that around 15 years later, it became the subject of the the wildly popular Serial podcast that has been downloaded tens of millions of times.
It focuses on the potential of a wrongful conviction, and just this week, his lawyer announced plans to take the case to the Supreme Court.
Enter Oscar-winning documentary maker Amy Berg, who is well known for work including West of Memphis, who wanted to pick up where Serial left off.
Her four-part series, The Case Against Adnan Syed, is available on TVNZ on Demand now. Berg joined Jack Tame to discuss her show and the controversial case.
