We were right.
Why launch something as significant as the future of your so-called post Covid country on the Friday before a long weekend? Unless you knew it would go down like a cup of cold sick?
The traffic light thing was a non-event. Green, red, colours, levels, name them after birds if you like, but names mean nothing. It’s the decisions that count and given the thing isn't in place until the end of next month, let's worry about it closer to the time.
The killer, the kicker, the insult, the infuriation, and they knew it, was this mad insistence on 90 percent double jabbed for everyone, everywhere. The sheer unfairness was seen by every single one of us that had bothered to make an effort, try to do our best, and do our part to get on with this.
For that, there is a great, big, fat middle finger. We were sucked in good. This is a government that loves the lazy, hopeless, recalcitrant, and the wayward. This is a government that can't hold the successful back enough.
The thing they don't get about businesses and business people is they don’t go into it to be on welfare, which is all that Grant Robertson announced. Was it more? Yes, it was. More welfare and more debt. Might it save a few? I hope so, but what business wants is graft and success.
You can't graft if you can't open. It will be in excess of three months by the end of this mess. A quarter of a year shot to pieces propped up by welfare.
What else? Yet more money for Māori authorities to do God knows what to get the jab rate up.
Waiting for recalcitrant DHBs, the very same DHBs the government's getting rid of because half of them are so useless. But just before they dump them, let's wait for the very last hopeless one to drag itself across the 90 percent line.
All because they don’t trust their own health system and they never got the vaccine here in time before delta shut us down and made fools of them as they still pedalled their elimination delusion.
As a result, they’ve blown the whole year to bits. This is a divided country, it is a an angry, let down country full of those who want better. They are facing a government that is mesmerised by control, power, and aligning themselves with the dead weights, tin hat wearers, and the incompetent.
I've seen and dealt with them all from Muldoon on. There have been some ropey days and ropey players, but this lot are setting records for being useless and worse, being dangerous.
