A skill shortage is prompting the construction industry to double its efforts to attract and retain women.
The Building Construction Industry Training Organisation is developing guidelines for employers, that involve advertising for women and how to treat them on the work site.
Chief Executive Warwick Quinn told Mike Hosking just under three percent of the 12,000 trainees are female.
He said for a long time firms have only attracted males.
"It has taken a skill shortage for us to really think seriously about how we attract women and we should have more women in the trades really regardless."
