The Immigration Minister has stepped in to stop the deportation of a Chinese man.

The wealthy migrant was facing deportation for failing to disclose his multiple relationships.

It's against immigration rules to grant visas to people with multiple partners or marriages.

Immigration adviser and former minister Tuariki Delamere represents the man.

He told Mike Hosking he hasn't done anything illegal.

"He was in a genuine established marriage at that time, yes he had had an affair on the side."

The man has invested more than $3 million over four years in this country on his investor category visa.
