The minister in charge of the Wally Haumaha inquiry denies the woman who is heading it has any conflict of interest.

The inquiry into his appointment as Deputy Police Commissioner was launched after historical comments about Louise Nicholas' rape allegations.

It has been revealed Doctor Pauline Kingi, endorsed him 23 different times on Linkedin.

National says there is a clear conflict or interest and she must step down.

Internal Affairs Minister Tracey Martin told Mike Hosking that Kingi is not enquiring into a person, she is enquiring into a process by the State Services Commission.

"She is a highly professional individual who'll give an answer on that and whatever Kingi comes out with is a secondary step."
