A Dunedin surveyor says if the city doesn't regain its steepest street in the world status, they will still claim it anyway.
Toby Stoff is in Wales and has measured the street which snatched the title from Dunedin's iconic Baldwin Street.
Mr Stoff told Mike Hosking his measurements show that Baldwin Street is steeper by five percent across the entire width.
He says it doesn't matter whether the Guinness World Records approve of his findings or not.
"Even though Guinness requested the steepest street sign be taken down - we will replace it with a bigger sign."
Welsh surveyors found the steepest point of the street to be 37.5%. Baldwin Street has a gradient of just 35%.
