New Zealanders stranded overseas will be all ears as the Government makes a major announcement about the MIQ system today.

Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins has hinted at shorter stays for returnees, home quarantine, and possibly no quarantine from safe countries.

Tekla Kridle is stuck in Western Australia with her family, and hasn't managed to get an MIQ spot to match a flight.

She told Mike Hosking double-vaxxed, Covid-free people should be able to self-isolate at home.

“We’d gladly pay a bond, wear an ankle bracelet – whatever – MIQ rooms are that few and far between and are really needed by people who are ill.”
