Destiny Church charities caught out by 2015 law change

It's nothing to do with its work, but everything to do with its paperwork.

Two of Destiny Church's operations have been stripped of their charity status.

It's because they've repeatedly failed to file their annual returns and will be required to pay tax - unless the church successfully appeals the decision.

Charity Law Specialist, Sue Barker told Mike Hosking a 2015 law change seems to have tripped them up.

"Previously there was no standard of reporting required at all but charities now have to file financial statements that are prepared in accordance with financial reporting standards issued by the external reporting boards."
