What a UK-Aussie zero-tariff deal means for NZ

Britain could be looking to ramp up its international trade again in the wake of Covid-19.

There is speculation the UK has offered Australia a zero tariff trade deal for the next 15 years, meaning no quota restrictions if accepted.

However our Trade Minister Damien O'Conner says New Zealand has more work to do before it can consider a similar deal.

International Business Forum Executive Director Stephen Jacobi told Mike Hosking this could be setting a precedent.

“Remember that Britain wants to join the CPTPP, and to do that they have to satisfy Australia and New Zealand and the other CPTPP members.”
