The Government is struggling to make a dent in child poverty.
The latest figures from Stats NZ shows there's been no significant change in material hardship since 2017.
New Zealand's first children's commissioner Sir Ian Hassall told Mike Hosking it can be difficult to get a handle on poverty.
"It takes a long time to get the ship turned around.
"The time I was Children's Commissioner, it wasn't even recognised as an issue."
