A surge in prices at the pump is seeing demand for fuel soften - among those with capacity to limit use.

As of March 22nd, there were about 49 days of petrol and 46 days of diesel either in the country or on the water. 

Another stock update is expected today. 

Waitomo Group Chief Executive, Simon Parham, says there's certainly been less demand from a retail point of view, which was expected after the panic buying early on. 

He told Mike Hosking that the commercial side is still holding up - but they're hurting because there isn't any relief, and diesel is the same price as 91 now, which is tough.
