Barrister: Covid-19 partly to blame for rise in family violence

Covid-19 may be causing a rise in family violence.  

Almost five thousand protection order offences are going through the courts each year. 

Police safety orders have jumped 460 to more than two thousand per year ... just in the last decade. 

Auckland barrister Sheila McCabe told Mike Hosking the pandemic is partly to blame. 

"The pressure that everybody’s on with families at home, trying to work with economic problems and just being cooped up has led to an increase in family violence.”
