Shane Jones says Northland iwi have no right to demand covid checkpoints be kept in place over summer.
Police have confirmed they'll be working with local iwi to keep checkpoints in place on State Highway 1 at Uretiti near Waipu, and on State Highway 12 near Maungaturoto.
The Government says iwi have legitimate concerns about protecting vulnerable communities.
