One inspirational Kiwi is doing something great out of a horrible tragedy.

Sequoia Schmidt's father and brother tried, in 2013, to become the first father-son duo to climb K2, the second highest mountain on the planet.

But it ended in tragedy, with an avalanche killing them both.

Instead of letting it bring her down, the tragedy inspired Sequoia to become an adventurer herself.

And now she has chronicled her latest journey throughout New Zealand in a new book, Chasing Gears. 

Sequoia Schmidt talks about moving from New Zealand to the United States as a teen, her adventuring family, how she dealt with grief, and her return journey to New Zealand.
