Russell Alexander is the boss of Matamata-based tourist attraction Hobbiton.
He told Mike Hosking Te Anau's move is a good one.
"Other people would adjust to it. Yeah of course it’s a gimmick, and it’s a great idea and aren’t they trying to do 'slow down a bit and take your time, spend more time there?’"
The small Northland farming district of Ararua went the other way in the 1980s - refusing to adopt daylight saving for several years.
