Defence Force veterans aren't getting enough support from the Act that's supposed to help them.
A report into the Veterans Support Act has found it's not putting veterans or their families first and makes 64 urgent recommendations.
Unfortunately it's another case of massive delays in support because not enough resources.
Author of the report, Auckland University professor Ron Patterson told Mike Hosking it's a big improvement on its predecessor.
"There certainly has been some difficulty for veterans trying to find out how they get their benefits or their entitlements."
He says veterans affairs are doing a good job but they need a seamless transition to other services.
"When people get sent to other departments, to ACC etc, they find that difficult, they need what we call a seamless service, they need one door to go in to help them and wraparound services, especially when they are going through some real difficulties."
Patterson says Veterans Minister Ron Mark is committed to implementing his recommendations
