There is disagreement between Labour and National MPs on school zoning.
The responsibility for creating zones will be taken away from school boards and given to a new agency.
Labour MP Stuart Nash told Mike Hosking the current situation doesn't work.
"Schools can determine their own zones. What they are doing is carving out areas which they don't want to have, and they are putting in richer areas, which is extremely unfair."
However, National MP Mark Mitchell says that's not right.
He was visited by the principals and boards of trustees of Orewa College and Red Beach Primary School last year.
"There is massive pressure without a doubt in terms of the roll and boundaries, but they worked it out together."
