Four-day working weeks and paid overseas holidays are being suggested as ways to help retain millennial staff.
A conference being held today at Waikato University is looking at trends that will affect the future of work.
Waikato University associate professor of leadership Peter Sun has been looking at how to boost retention of younger staff.
He told Mike Yardley there are certain characteristics millennials have that workplaces need to recognise.
"Millennials today are more socially conscious than in the past, so companies need to look at having a social purpose in what they do.
"Millennials have replaced baby boomers as the largest working generation globally, they crave more adventure and more work-life balance, it's important for organisations to be aware of how they operate."
Legal services trust Perpetual Guardian made international headlines in February 2018 when it began a six-week trial in which employees were given one extra day off a week.
