Educators are preparing for their industry to be flipped on its head.

A year of free tertiary education and the scrapping of National Standards are expected to be on the way, as the incoming coalition government prepares to release its policies.

Auckland University Education Professor Peter O'Connor told Mike Hosking whether you think it's a good thing, depends on your political view.

"This is a sea change for education, it's going to have the biggest shake-up in nine years really."
