The Government is aiming to give the sports sector a boost to survive the Covid-19 crunch.
Sport and Recreation Minister Grant Robertson has announced a $265 million, four-year recovery package.
$83 million is for immediate support to struggling organisations - some might be given loans, while others receive grants - and $78 million dollars has been dedicated to modernise the sector via innovation.
Sport New Zealand chief executive Peter Miskimmin's forecasting a brighter future and hopes other bodies feel likewise.
"Hopefully they are excited about what it does. It provides immediate relief for those that are suffering badly, and at the same time provides an opportunity for us to think forward."
The rest of the package -Â $104 million - is to help the sector rebuild in the medium term. This includes helping national and regional organisations make changes to operate successfully and support new operating models and more collaboration.
